Katie Robertson Shaddix is a digital marketing strategist, nonprofit advocate, and all-around problem solver who believes that good storytelling and smart strategy can drive real impact. As the Digital Marketing Manager for United Way of Central Alabama, she helps connect people with resources that change lives. With a background in content creation, analytics, and user experience, Katie is passionate about making complex ideas accessible and meaningful. When she’s not wrangling marketing campaigns, she’s likely tending to her ever-growing menagerie of pets, experimenting with aquascaping, or finding new ways to keep her ADHD brain organized (or at least entertained).

Pencilpress Studio

Birmingham artist Susan Shoemaker needed a new website that could integrate her online presence. With mentions of her work appearing across a number of platforms--social media, an Etsy shop, community event calendars, news articles, blogs, and more--Susan needed one place where fans and potential patrons could find everything that they needed to know about her, her art, her upcoming shows, and her contact info.
The new Pencilpress Studio site combines Pencil Press Studio's online gallery, an online store, media archive, event calendar, and social media accounts all into one home where Shoemaker and her art can be found online.

ESB Yoga

Independent yoga practitioner Elizabeth Salter Brooke needed a new website to take her business to the next level. Information about her business was spread between her Facebook page, her blog, and the websites for four different studios where she taught classes.
She needed one address that integrated all of her information, and that's what I delivered with a sleek new site that integrated her event calendar, blog, social media accounts all in one place. The new site also features a newsletter sign up and contact manager that allows her to quickly send e-blasts to customers.

Alabama Water Agenda

Initially produced in 2007, the original Alabama Water Agenda outlined the major threats to Alabama's waterways. However, the original document contained highly technical language that wasn't accessible to average citizens, and it didn't make it clear what could be done to address those threats. In 2011, I served as copy and photo editor as I coordinated a team of graphic designers, copy editors, nonprofit professionals, attorneys, and photographers in the production of a revised Agenda. The result was a more accessible and visually appealing document that focused on solution-based action items.

Alden Systems Industry Blog

Alden Systems is an innovative company that provides software and services to the electric power, broadband, and telecommunications industries. In order to attract the attention and potential business of decision-makers working in those fields, Alden publishes an industry blog containing useful, relevant, and entertaining posts about topics pertinent to industry professionals.

I studied industry trade publications and message boards in order to seek out the topics that our audience cared about the most. I researched those topics and sought out the answers to the questions that I saw our audience asking. I wrote about these answers in blog posts that were tailored to fit into a framework of current events and industry focus points.

Wild & Scenic Film Festival

I coordinated eleven showings of the national Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour in cities across Alabama. I produced and distributed all marketing collateral including Web pages, posters, post cards, radio scripts, and social media content. I booked guest speakers, solicited sponsors, organized volunteers, and more.
